Eligibility and Selection Process
Eligibility to become a South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher:
Certified South Carolina K-12 classroom teachers in a public-school district, charter schools, or private school, who instruct students for at least half of the school day.
Teachers who have completed at least three years in the profession and participate in professional development related to financial literacy.
Teachers who express an interest in furthering financial literacy in the classroom and providing their students with relevant skills to help them make smart decisions with their money.
Selection Process - Teachers will be carefully selected by a team consisting of SC Economics staff, SC Treasurer's staff, and university faculty affiliates.
The following criteria will be used in the selection process:
Willingness to learn and collaborate with other teachers in the program
Interest in leading teacher-focused training sessions geared toward the adult learner
Passion for student learning
Grade levels / subjects taught
Subject matter expertise
Geographic location
Dedication to professional learning
Classroom skills using activity-based learning
Being a South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher allows teachers to:
Earn additional income
Earn re-certification hours (vary based on commitment level)
Designation as a Financial Literacy Master Teacher
Certificate and name plate for outside your classroom upon completion of the Gold Level year
Recognition on the SC Economics website and spotlighted on SC Economics social media
Honorarium for workshops and webinars conducted
Invitations to special events
Additional opportunities may include:
Priority Access to Scholarship Opportunities
Further professional development opportunities (including Jump$tart, the National Conference on Economic Education, Next Gen Personal Finance, and other related conferences)
Serve on a screening committee to review new Financial Literacy Master Teacher applications
Serve as a mentor for new Financial Literacy Master Teachers
