Eligibility and Selection Process

Eligibility to become a South Carolina Financial Literacy Master Teacher:

• Certified South Carolina K-12 classroom teachers in a public-school district, charter schools, or private school, who instruct students for at least half of the school day.

• Teachers who have completed at least three years in the profession and participate in professional development related to financial literacy.

• Teachers who express an interest in furthering financial literacy in the classroom and providing their students with relevant skills to help them make smart decisions with their money.

Selection Process - Teachers will be carefully selected by a team consisting of SC Economics staff, SC Treasurer's staff, and university faculty affiliates. 

The following criteria will be used in the selection process:

• Willingness to learn and collaborate with other teachers in the program

• Interest in leading teacher-focused training sessions geared toward the adult learner

• Passion for student learning 

• Grade levels / subjects taught

• Subject matter expertise

• Geographic location

• Dedication to professional learning

• Classroom skills using activity-based learning
